Training & information sessions

Since 2010, Quaker Social Action’s Down to Earth service has been supporting people on low incomes who are struggling with funeral costs. We share our learning through training and information sessions to help others working with people in similar situations.

“A really good session. The balance was good, didn’t feel depressed afterwards!!”

Training workshops

Our interactive training workshops are for organisations and teams supporting recently bereaved people on low incomes.

People who have attended our workshops include funeral directors, palliative care social workers and staff from grant-giving charities.

Workshops are made up of a series of modules, selected to suit the needs of your team, and include time for questions and discussion throughout.

Modules include:

  • Talking to people about death and funerals
  • What happens to welfare benefits after a death
  • Reducing funeral costs
  • Raising money towards funeral costs
  • The Social fund Funeral expenses payment (for England, Wales & Northern Ireland)
  • The Funeral support payment (Scotland)
  • Making charity applications for individuals
